536th Anniversary – Birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji
The Sikh Forum International held an event at the prestigious Lincoln’s Inn to celebrate the 536th anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru and founder of the Sikh religion. Mr K.T.S. Tulsi and Mr Tarlochan Singh spoke about the teachings of Guru Nanak and the philosophy of Sikhism. A feature of the Sikh religion is tolerance for other paths of worship. This is particularly relevant in society today.
The reception was attended by many distinguished figures including:
- Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Sir Ian Blair
- Solicitor General Mike O’Brien MP
- Mr Ranjan Mathai, Deputy High Commissioner of India
- Tarlochan Singh, Member of the Indian Parliament
- The Right Honourable Viscount Slim
- His Honour Justice Mota Singh QC
- K.T.S. Tulsi, Ex Additional Solicitor General of the Government of India
President of the Sikh Forum International, Ranjit Singh OBE who is also Chairman of the Inter-Faith Action Group, graciously thanked Sir Ian Blair for the progress made in strengthening inter-community relations. He went on to say, “I am grateful to our guests for speaking so eloquently about the teachings of Sikhism on this special anniversary. There is a direct match between our beliefs and those of the Action Group. The Sikh Forum International is not just committed to helping those directly within our community. To that end, I am delighted to announce that we are sending a donation of £2,500 to the Great Ormond Street Hospital for sick children.
