President of the Sikh Forum, UK, Ranjit Singh OBE began the programme and Laid stress to;the fact that  Sikhs have done well for whichever country they have adopted to live in  He said that they have contributed and gained recognition in every sphere of British society. He stressed as enshrined in Guru Granth Sahib that Sikhs will stand with the right cause with the right reason, as they have done throughout their history. But over the years it has also become a barometer of the immense success and achievement of the community, just three million “who have gone from stringth to strength from a small beginning in relatively short time”

Lord Karass Bilimoria CBE BL of Chelsea, winner of the achievement  award Billimoriapraised the Sikh bravery and said that although only 2% of the total Indian army stringth, Sikh soldiers have 521 paramveer chakra in their name. He also emphaized to the Sikh community ‘not only to try to be best in the world but also try to be best for the world’, He said that immigration is not a threat but its diversity is our strength

General Sir Richard Dannatt KCB CBE MC ADC was Dannattalso hounoured with the Sikh Forum Award he said that Sikhs are known worldwide for their bravery and honesty. He also added that they are also known for their ethical values and beliefs. He said it is these values and qualities which lead to them having created a bonding among the English community, Sir Richard also talked about the relationship between British and Sikh community by giving lots of examples from the different battles fought by both the community’s together. Sir Richard quoted ‘I am extremeley keen to invite the Sikh youth’s to join the British armed forces’ expressing it as a huge opportunity.

kapoorDr S.S Kapoor, Vice Chacellor was awarded the Sikh of the year award, 2006. Addressing the audience Dr Kapoor said that the Sikh forum has created a trust which provides financial support to underpriviliged children here and abroad especially in India.

Also attending was Deputy High Commissioner of India & Mr Tariq Gappur Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner.
