Meeting - Aftermath of 7th July Terrorist Attacks

President of the Sikh Forum International and Chairman of the Inter-Faith Action Group, Mr Ranjit Singh OBE, chaired an Inter-Faith meeting at Scotland Yard in the immediate aftermath of the July 2005 terrorist attacks in

London. The discussion was attended by A C Tarique Ghaffur CBE QPM, His Honour Mota Singh QC, London Assembly Member Richard Barnes, Chairman of Hindu Temples R.L. Bhandari, and the General Secretary of Abu Bakari Mosque, Mr Shahid.

The events of July 2005 undoubtedly cast a shadow upon multi-cultural communities in the

UK. The acts of terrorism raised serious questions about how to tackle growing extremism amongst sections of our society. Not only are the events of July 2005 a tragedy, they also exposed a reality that shocked Britain – two of the four terrorists were born here.

The group of community leaders vowed to work in concert to address hate crime, the growing threat of extremism and how best to achieve stronger communities. It is important for the various religious and cultural groups in

Britain to remain united. Fractured communities are a breeding ground for terrorism. Community cohesion sends a strong message to extremists that their views are not welcome in our society.
